Montrose Baptist Church started as a mission of
Wildwood Baptist Church to the trailer park
community that once existed where Montrose Crossings
Shopping Center is now located. Founding Pastor Rev.
Ralph Neighbour, Jr. and a group of dedicated
evangelists led by Rev. Claude Brubaker began this
work of love and ministry in 1952. Regular Sunday
meetings began in 1953, targeting the children of
Blandy's Trailer Court. In 1954, Montrose Mission
was born; our first building was purchased through
the generosity of Mr. Francis Huggins.
On July 7, 1955, the mission was incorporated and
given the new name, Montrose Baptist Church, and a
dedication service was held on August 14 of that
year. In 1956, Rev. Neighbour moved to New Orleans
to attend seminary and continue his education. Dr.
Robert Daniel Crowley became the Pastor and led the
church for the next four decades – 1995! Dr. Otis
Ray Hope became the Senior Pastor in 1996. Under the
leadership of Executive Pastor Mark Hamilton in
2002, Montrose continued moving forward in God's
work. An Interim Pastor was sought to complete the
work Pastor Hamilton had begun. Dr. Thomas Marshall
served as the Interim Executive Pastor in 2002. Dr.
Ron Brown became the Interim Senior Pastor in 2005.
Dr. David Jackson became the Interim Senior Pastor
in September 2006. Dr. Ken Fentress became the
Senior Pastor of Montrose Baptist Church in 2007.
Although Montrose has experienced much change in
recent years, our mission has remained the same: to
bring people to Jesus and membership in His family,
develop them to Christ-like maturity, and equip them
for their ministry in the church and their life
mission in the world in order to magnify God's name.
The heart of Montrose has grown over these past 50
years, as have our congregation, buildings, and
ministries. In 1968 Montrose Christian Child
Development Center was opened part-time in
the mornings. This ministry has grown into a
full-day program through 4 year olds, offering daily
love care to pre-school children of more than 125
children. Then in 1977 Montrose Christian
School opened with only two kindergarten
classes and now goes through to the 12th grade. It
has also grown to become one of the area leaders in
Academics, Athletics, and the Performing Arts, while
investing in the lives of more than 350 students on
a daily basis – teaching faith, discipline, and
wisdom. In 1997 Montrose Multi-Cultural
Language Ministries were established and God
has blessed us with an incredible diversity over the
past ten years. God has also blessed us with
multi-cultural language services in Arabic, Chinese,
Spanish, and Ethiopian. Our church congregation,
school, and child development center is now
comprised of adults, and children representing over
40 nationalities. We welcome you to come and be a
part of our loving family and participate in our
exciting services and ministries. |
